You are a midwife.
You are assisting at someone else’s birth.
Do good without show or fuss.
Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening.
If you must, take the lead.
Lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge.
When the babe is born the mother will rightly say
"We did it ourselves".

I am a mother of 2 teenagers and midwife who works mainly with women planning homebirths. I work in private practice because I am passionate about the right of women to be able to choose how, where & with whom they give birth. Unfortunately this option is not currently available to women in the public health system in Victoria.

  • view your pregnancy & birth as a natural process, not an illness
  • believe that there should be a valid reason to interfere with this process
  • trust in your body’s ability to birth your baby
  • would rather facilitate your birth than manage it
  • work in partnership with you
  • respect your privacy, and will not do anything without your permission first
  • aim to give you unbiased information including the risks & alternatives
  • would rather see you in control & making informed decisions
  • will refer appropriately or suggest a transfer if problems arise

For more information please email andrea@homebirths.com.au or phone (03) 9704 2386.

I now work in a midwifery group practice Eastside Midwives This enables women to have a known second midwife and back-up in the unlikely event that I am at another birth.
